Maternity Session Tips
These are my best five tips to help you enjoy an amazing maternity session experience.
Schedule Your Session Between 28-36 Weeks
This is the best time to photograph your growing bump before you start to feel uncomfortable. Once you have your due date set, reach out and schedule your maternity session! Schedule early is so that you have plenty of time to style and design your dream maternity session. If you plan on purchasing or renting an outfit, some gowns are made-to-order and can take several weeks to arrive. The more time you give yourself, the better to avoid any wardrobe issues.
Find Your Style
Creating the look and feel you want for your one-of-a-kind images is so important for telling your story. Are you dreaming of images that bare your beautiful bump? Maybe you’re hoping to tie in the colors of your nursery or home decor. Whatever feels right to you should reflect your style.
Professional Hair & Makeup
The professionals know how to apply photographic makeup and style hair. You feel confident and will look incredible in your photos. My maternity sessions include complimentary makeup done at a salon in Brookfield, WI. Even if you’re a makeup aficionado, leave this one to the professionals! It’s a bonus that you’re ready for a date night after.
Pamper Yourself
This goes right along with having your hair and makeup done. You deserve to be pampered and relaxed before (and during) your session. Treat yourself during the day, so you feel amazing. That could be a massage earlier in the day, a nice meal after to look forward to, or just a few quiet moments to yourself prior to your maternity session. This day is all about you, Mama.
Coordinating Outfits
I do provide a complimentary wardrobe for my clients to barrow from. I have a wide range of gowns from very extravagant to everyday wear. If your spouse/partner will be joining, I highly suggest bringing along several outfit options so we can coordinate a beautiful look. I always suggest simple, solid and transitional pieces that are free of logos and bold patterns. You want something that you can look back on years down the road and still really love.
