Recently I was talking with some friends about a new layout for a client’s Baby Book, and I was surprised when they mentioned that they hadn’t even thought about baby books for their children. The modern reasoning behind not creating baby books seems to be that they’re time consuming, or maybe we make excuses that we’ll get to it at a later date. We post everything online anyway, right? (Facebook, Instagram, etc …)
As a professional photographer, creating baby books for my children has always been a given. But Megan, you might be saying, I don’t have time to create image layouts and carefully design a baby book. I already have too many things to do each and every day!
So, here are three reasons why even my most social media savvy moms and mothers-to-be should order a Baby Book when the time comes.

1. You Might Regret Not Ordering a Baby Book
As your kids grow, you’ll find it harder to remember some of the little features they had as newborns, like the funny way their ears curled in or the shape of their mouth when they cooed in their sleep.
If I hadn’t recorded these features, over time I might have forgotten them completely. Your children will, of course, love looking back on their baby books when they’re older. But you, the parent, will also love remembering them as newborns. Through my work as a professional photographer, I’ve found that most people have the best intentions to assemble and order a baby book themselves. Time is a thief, though, and before you know it, your sweet little ones will be graduating from high school.
2. They Are Beautiful, Physical Books
It’s a special experience to sit with your mother or your child, open a beautifully bound book, feel the texture of the pages, and know that every photo was selected with purpose. (As opposed to watching someone scroll through their phone or tablet, looking for that one image.) Additionally, technology changes fast! Who knows how images will be stored in the future … Remember floppy disks?!
Your Baby Book will be perfectly coordinated to your taste. With lay-flat pages that create a full, sensory experience, the Baby Book can accommodate up to forty pages; twenty are included. A custom foil overprint may be included on the cover or box, elevating and perfectly completing your Baby Book.

It’s such a special experience to share your own baby book with your children, comparing your features to theirs, and even reminiscing about your early years.

The Ordering Process
Once you have decided on a size (I offer my Baby Books at 8×8, 9.5×9.5, and 12×8) we will then select your colors. You may choose to go monochromatic with both the box and album, choosing the same color, or I can help you select two different hues for a truly unique look.
One foil imprint is a part of the baby book design. Some parents decide to put names, birth stats, or a special passage on the front of their album. This is a custom process and we will work together to design the perfect cover.
I will then create your Baby Book layout based on your image selections. A special addition moms have been including recently is a personal letter baby. Be sure to let me know if you plan to work in this beautiful touch. When the initial design is complete, I will send you a proof via email. You will be able to make change requests directly on the album layout itself, adding images, taking out or swapping images, or even requesting a fresh design. I will be able to view your comments and make those changes right away. Another proof will be on its way to you shortly, for approval.
When the baby book design is approved, I will send it off to Italy’s production team. They will print and hand bind your album into perfection. All artwork will be delivered to the studio for my close inspection. Finally, I’ll contact you to set up a pickup date!
