Yes! You should include your children during your maternity session!
My second-time mamas sometimes ask me if they could or should, bring their other children to the maternity session. The answer is YES – if that’s what you envision. I love including your other children during the maternity session for a few reasons. Whether you have a rambunctious toddler or several older children welcoming the family’s new baby, including your children is so special! It also gives them an opportunity to get to know me before the newborn session.
Your maternity session really is a bonding experience for your entire family. Not only will you feel the excitement and the anticipation in meeting your precious newborn, but you can also celebrate your children becoming a big sibling. We’ll spend the session gushing over your growing family while we capture your portraits.
Your child (or children) is about to embark on a very special new role as big brother or sister! The session will celebrate this transition for them and already provides a big job – helping mommy take beautiful photos.
Your maternity session is an opportunity to take a snapshot of your family as it is right now. You’ll look back on these portraits and remember feeling so excited to meet your sweet baby while celebrating your older children. It’ll be a special memory for you and your children.
The family below had a special mission for their session. Their goal was to capture fun images of the girls so they could decorate the walls of their newly shared room to add to the excitement of a room change. A newly shared room was a huge change for the girls and they were excited to have their own artwork on the walls. See my post about how to plan and shoot for wall art.
